A series of several joglo villas in Bali: the project rethinks traditional Indonesian architecture through the lens of contemporary resort aesthetics.
The expressive multi-pitched roof with a raised centre becomes the house's defining silhouette, while deep overhangs and panoramic glazing blur the line between the interior and the tropical garden. The house is built into the terraced terrain: a system of steps and retaining walls stages a gentle transition from landscape to living space.
Massive timber columns and open terraces create a fluid passage between the interior, the pool and the garden. Natural wood, stone and dense greenery work as one calm environment where privacy and contemplation of nature matter more than decoration. Abstract sculptural forms in the landscape underline the project's artistic character. The villa reads as a secluded tropical pavilion among palms and mountains, with soft light and the feel of a Balinese retreat.
